General information
Our Event
The Rawdon Dragon Boat Festival has been part of the Quebec scene since the summer of 2004 and is traditionally held in mid-August. We offer our participating teams a one day event where they will compete in 3 races: 2 heats of 250m and 500m and a 500m final.
On the banks of the Rawdon municipal beach this festival offers one of the nicest sites for these types of races. Furthermore, as this event is an integral part of the Rawdon municipality's Intercultural Festival, we find here a unique atmosphere: live music on site, restaurant and art & crafts stands, activities for kids and other surprises.
What is dragon boat ?
A dragon boat is a type of giant canoe which seats 16 to 20 paddlers, one drummer who beats to the rhythm of the stroke at the front and one steersperson standing at the back of the boat.
Different types of teams compete in these types of races. There are women's, men's and mixed crews. We may find these teams in three different divisions: amateur, community and sport (elite). Mixed teams are the most common and are usually composed of 20 paddlers with at least 8 women and 8 men.
Amateur teams practice only once or twice and generally race at a single festival. Community and sport division teams train on a more regular base and sign up for a few festivals during the summer.
